Members schecterc1lh
I am looking for a semi-hollow body guitar, and being a lefty, there arent that many options. I am looking for something to play in a worship band, and semi-hollows seem to sound great with that genre. I have an ac15, pedals....normal stuff. I really like how this guys stuff sounds (the lead guitar player, although they both sound fantastic) : [video=youtube;IoezWBPGRAc] Anyways, for that type of stuff, how are these? I could replace the pickups if necessary. How do they play and feel? Anything else you want to add? Thanks!
Members Jules-RM
I had an Epi's neck twist on me after only a couple years. I love my Hagstroms (they have a H shaped truss rod, so no possibility of twisting), they are very high quality for the price. There's even a lefty on Ebay right now. Members echodeluxe
my roomie has had his dot deluxe for about 5 years and its fantastic. i used to have a red one that i loved. since i cant afford another sheraton at the moment, im most likely gonna pick up a used natural dot. stick some seymour duncan 59's in there (i really like this pickup) and im good to go. then a casino... Members Elessar [Sly]
I'm left handed and my epiphone LP is one of the best guitars I've ever played. It's very hard to find decent guitars. Try and get one thats not a bolt neck though.
Members RoboPimp
I have one of the studio dots, I like it. Decent stock pickups, and I like the stripped down controls. Neck feels alright to me.
Members t_e_l_e
a local store has/had a lefty epi dot for years hanging there. i had a look at it, and the build quality of this particular example was extremely bad.setup very high, bindings seemed not right and playability and feel was not exciting.might be that it was this example hanging there really long, nobody wanting it to buy and therefore not treated very well by the shop people (was a big shop, with lots of people working and lots of people going in and out). i have a lefty epi lp custom which is a nice guitar, but since i have a real gibson custom from '75 the epi gets no play time anymore, the real thing in this case is much nicer to play, i speak of the handling and not the pickups i'm not saying epi is bad, but be sure as a lefty that you can play the thing before you buy it, to sort a lemon out and if you are happy with it how it feels. i know its hard to find one to play first as a lefty.... Members Dr.Picklebottom
like all epis they can be hit or miss but ive played several very nice ones. almost bought one actually. i made the mistake of picking up a 335 while i was playing some dots. i left wishing i made more money with no guitar. Members schecterc1lh
So how do they sound for stuff like in the video i posted? That guy almost always uses gretsch or duesenburg, but they are extremely expensive.
Members Mel Cooley
The one I had for a short while looked great, but everything screwed to the guitar was loose. Tightening pots on a hollow guitar can get tricky. The pickups were weak and the fretwork was iffy.
Members claytonjohn18
That music is snore city, but with awesome tones.
Members chrisjnyc
You could do better than an Epi... xaviereArtcoreHagstrum For a little more $$$Heritage333339
Members Jerry_L
I have one, a special edition, trans blue with gold hardware. Sounds good and plays good, but there may be better options, even in the same price range. I personally don't find the body shape comfortable, but that would apply even to a real 335. I like my Epi Wildkat better. It has better tone and playability, and a smaller bout. It also has the Bigsby, which has it's good and bad points. Members kyp
I started out thinking Dot and ended up with this. Just felt better to me. I will say that it is a little neck-heavy. http://www.ibanez.com/HollowBodyGuitars/model-AS73B

Anything else you want to add? Thanks! i have that lead singer's tele, different color...hooray for me...and op, check out the shecter semihollows...i have one of those too, but not for long. i love my tele too much and the schecter never gets played tele and schecter
Members big_cat
I like my Dot. It destroys the fatassed Artcore I used to have, and the cheaper Gretsch models. The stock pickups are lacking, though. I was going for a Gretsch sound so I put filtertrons and a bigsby on it. In my cheap hollowbody search I tried loads of instruments and the only ones that really turned me on were Hagstroms and some of the Dots.
