Number'd!

Moving on... would there be a huge difference between a single 4x10 and 2 2x10 cabs?

I know there are many variables, such as open back/closed back/speakers/etc, but let's assume everything is the same EXCEPT the config.

From my experience with bass cabinets, there is a big difference in sound between four tens arranged in a square and four tens stacked in a vertical column in terms of apparent low frequency response, whether they're all in one cabinet or multiples. Mostly due to differences in ground coupling. The stack sounds subjectively clearer and tighter to me. Also being able to stack vertically gets speakers closer to your ears so you can hear yourself better. And you can point them in different directions if you need to. Or get a 2nd amp and play in stereo.

Another good thing about two cabinets is that you have the option of using only one of them for practice or a gig in a smaller room.
