personally i think the offset movement has just had a longer and more tedious lifespan. i don't think it is even remotely close to the superstrat craze.
    And
if you think about it, popular offset users are Finally being recognized, just in the last 4 years, of their influence on music(in relation to producers of the actual instruments) -
    j. mascis
    elvis costello
    thurston moore
    lee ranaldo
    johnny marr

    KEVIN SHIELDS

man... you have no idea how long I've lusted for one of those... now that Warmoth is offering the body it would be just around $1K to put on together depending on the options you go with...but.. .I'm sure Fender could do one for cheaper than that with some killer options....

Not now. But in five years or so? Probably. Just in time for Jacksons and Kramers to become the new Jazzmasters.

                God, I cannot wait.
I'm in a band called Little Sluggers. Signature.

I was flipping through the new Guitar World Magazine and the guitarist for Slipknot is working with Fender on a Sig Jazzmaster. WHY??? I still want a J Mascis in purple though.
RoboPimp: yup, part of growing up is abandoning any hopes and dreams and giving up on anything that you feel passionate about or makes you happy. then comes years of waiting for sweet death.

while offsets have blown up on some forums (here), real world I hardly ever see them being used. its rare to see a band use them around here, and any shop you walk into you're lucky to see one of each type when surrounded by hundreds of guitars, if that.

Yeah I think a certain type of player really likes offsets (people who post on effects forums) and the internet has made that market a lot more visible and easy to tap, but I still see most players out there using the old standby tele.

Are you serious? Jazzmasters/Jaguars are absolutely the trendy guitar right now. Being in Chicago, one trip to Pitchfork or Lollapalooza will confirm that. The only other guitar that seems to be as trendy is the semi-hollow (anythingn resembling a 335.)

I played a show back in march, 4 bands and each one had at least one person playing a jazzmaster (which would be me in my band). BUT I still don't see them as often as I do Les Paul's, SG's or Strat's, and that was the first show in a year where i saw anyone using a JM. While they may be trendy I still feel they are far from the top of most widely used guitars now a days.
