Members avenge the rage
Hi guys, I tried out a 808 today and I really liked it. However I got told the ts-9 is better and its cheaper. Which would work best with a engl fireball?
Members Zappa74
I like the Boss SD-1 more than both of those.
Members Cirrus
They're basically the same. The 808 is what SRV used so it's more expensive.
Members hecticone
See if you can find a Texas Deuce best 808 I have used with a boost.
Members The Wood Wizard
I have a fireball 100 and an 808 and they pair just fine. theyre both damn near the same thing though. I eally like the footswitch on the 808 if it means anything, very smooth, not a hard ass click. Although to be honest sometimes i feel like i dont even need the 808 on the fireball, its so tight! Members ispunk
I think a TS9 has a little more gain than an 808. If price is a factor it's not hard to find an 808 clone for cheaps
Members The Wood Wizard
Oh yeah, what do you want it for? If you have a fireball im guessing you wanna just boost it hard. all volume little or no gain settings? In which case gain isnt really that important. Members IvIark
The only difference between the TS808 and TS9 is a couple of components in the output buffer, so is almost inconsequential. You could almost certainly find more of an audible difference between two TS808s because of normal part tolerances. Get the cheaper one and change two parts if you really feel the need. Members elsupermanny14
This is a great video about the three Ibanez tube screamers. [video=youtube;ZeWsVGKxq8g] This is pretty good to watch just for fun.
Members avenge the rage
Well I have a wylde over drive, and I feel it just isn't doing what I want it to, so I want to get one of these to push the tubes more and get a nice crisper sound. On another site someone suggested the bad monkey.
Members Lanefair
I use a bad monkey with my overdrive channel. A ts just doesn't keep the bass up. Thoroughly recommend it, although its nothing like a ts really.

Members walleyeye
808 as it is a bit warmer than the ts9. the engl can be a bit bright
Members dkerwood
Prefer the 808-type myself, as I've never found a TS9 I've bonded with. In my experience, the 808 always has had more gain. *Shrug* I actually prefer the Visual Sound Route 808 (although I use the Jekyll side of my Jekyll & Hyde). Members Reauchambeau
I have an original 808 and TS-9, the 808 has more gain and is slightly less compressed, I prefer it. the Bad Monkey was a little too murky, I prefer a more open sound.
