Members Faldoe
So I'm in San Diego for granny Faldoe's funeral (rip). A friend that grew up in SD swears the the Mexican food in SD easily rivals the food in the Bay Area. Can anyone recommend some spots that rule? Phil O'Keefe
Try Las Cuatro Milpas. It's about as authentic and yummy as it gets.
Members LSDis4me
Bay Area Mexican food > San Diego Mexican foodI haven't found good Mexican food here yet. And SD is so much about chain restaurants everywhere. I haven't been to where Phil recommends. What part of SD will you be in? PM me and let me know if you have any free time and want to meet. I'm near Poway. Sorry to hear about your grandmother.
Members cryptosonic
Cotijas on Voltaire in OB, next to the apple market. Best California burrito and carne asada fries around.

Members placebo62
I cant help you with the Mexican food, but I found a cool bar when I was in SD last month. http://www.neighborhoodsd.com When you head to the bathroom, there is a stack of beer kegs piled up on a wall. Push the kegs to reveal a hidden staircase that leads to a very rad and tiny cocktail bar.
Members twanguero
Dude I love Cotijas! Hash brown burrito is awesome. Also try El Comal in North Park. It's great interior Mexican food. The cochinita pibil tacos and the cabrito tacos are the best I've had in this town

Members SDshirtman
There are so many taco shops in San Diego and almost all of them are pretty good. You can't really go wrong where ever you go and you're always within a mile of one.
Phil O'Keefe
{censored} that, go to TJ. Bay Area Mexican food > TJ Mexico Mexican food - at least if you listen to the norte

Members roquero
I'm in Chula Vista right now and there are literally 3 or 4 taco shops on every block- try around H street and Broadway, you can take your pick. Most of the ones I have tried are cheap and good!

You can't really go wrong where ever you go and you're always within a mile of one. Pretty much not this. There are tons of taco shops, but I don't think they're very good. Perhaps these San Diegans haven't had the pleasure of eating Mexican food in the Bay Area. For full disclosure, I didn't like my lunch in Juarez either. And for fuller disclosure, I make the best Mexican food in San Diego. Also, the best pizza. But my lasagne skills have gone in the crapper for some reason. No, but I got a pizza stone, and use this Iraqi flat bread (2 of them as a crust), then a pesto base.

I don't know why but this made me laugh super hard. I don't even doubt LSD's pizza skills or anything but that sentence made everyone in the library look at me weird. Members ItchyFingers
As someone who's lived up and down the west coast: San Diego Mexican food is better than most spots in TJ, and the Mexican food gets worse as you move north, trust me. Good spots have been listed, and I'll second the statement that any taco shop you visit will hit the spot. It's more a matter of how much that particular stand will jack your stomach up. However, if you prefer to sit in a restaurant... Casa Machado - right on a municipal airport, you can watch commuter and bi-planes landing and taking off while you drink micheladas and eat chips and salsa and hot carrots. Mmm kerrerts.3750 John J.
