Members tonymcbony
Ashdown stuff is generally crap. Big Muff or Bass Big Muff are good starters. Rat or clone with no clippers and the double ruetz mod sounds the tits too.

The bassist from my old band had an Ibanez Phat head and I remember that sounding cool.
Members Poltergeist
exactly. just make sure it doesn't have the volume drop issue, other than that you should be in the clear. that pedal used with bass will make you cream your pants for sure. Members caeman
Digitech Bad Monkey. It is inexpensive, moddable and many bassists use one. Specifically, you can get one from Max at [sfx] that has all the usual mods pre-installed and perfect for use with a bass.

Members stevemcb
Further votes for Bad Monkey (I use mine stock for bass OD with my Ibanez ATK's, sounds great and cheap as chips) and Bass Big Muff which is cool for bass fuzz. Members triviani
Bass Big muff, it also has a couple of tricks inside. Any muff variant, really. For something a bit more "out there", that mxr Blowtorch

Members starmansam
yeah I'd avoid the blowtorch. you can probably find a boss odb-3 for cheap. it isnt actually an overdrive as far as I'm concerned, its a distortion, so as long as you know that going in you can appreciate the pedal for what it does. what it does it thick distortion that sounds chewy and sits nicely in a band mix. the eq is pretty powerful and the blend knob is useful if you are in to that kind of thing. I modded mine to smooth it out a bit, but it still sounds pretty angry. it also sounds killer on guitar.
