yep, the so-called vintage time apparatus that currently shows off @ NAMM,

and which IMO desparately tries to looks like a well-known "DMM"-clone

has itself already been cloned overnite by Underground Electronic Forces ( U.E.F. )...

first impression:

(click on the "youtube" link above... 10Mb)

it is of course upgraded & modded, a.o. to go

Flanging from Vibrato Through Zero back to Vibrato.

It`s designed to fit into a small diecast "Booteek-look" box,

to save precious board real estate.

(the circuit itself is of the size of a 9V battery...)

the designer says its bench-name is: "Memory Boy"

and there will be followed by a deLuxe version soon: "Memory Guy".

no pun intended.

The first Ton video! This is a great moment.

Was it difficult to clone the Behringer? I hear that they use only completely original designs.

As a company, they have no soul.

It's pure himself

Ah, do excuse my ignorance.

So, Puretube, will you be releasing these?

I find it a bit weird that you're cloning Behringer, who cloned EHX (Was the circuit the same?) and you work for EHX.

Or are you just a free-lance designer?

I`m "just a free-lance designer"...

but I`ve granted E-H the exclusive rights on my designs.

I only work for E-H, for me, my loving wife, and the FUNK!

and for dan-o, I`ll show the freshly finished PCB layout:

NTM1760.jpg

(within the black squares you can see the actual corner-markings,

which define the PCB`s size; the circuit is a "sandwich" of 2 SMD sides,

and one through-hole; btw: don`t be mislead by the word: "digital" -

it just stands for the BBD-part).

I see, I see :)

Sorry if I seemed ignorant earlier.

How did you get your hands on a VTM so quickly, or is it the same as the DMM (in which case, I guess you used that)?

It sounds great by the way :thu:

Do you plan to release these?

Smd is just smaller parts? Not digital perse?

No necessarily digital. Caps, resistors, and all sorts of linear parts are SMD also. Take a look inside a Bad Monkey (or just about 90% of the mass-produced stompboxes out there) and you'll see all SMD, yet it usually still 100% analog.

Yes,

The beauty of SMD is that you can populate a board on both sides, and actually interconnect both sides using what is callled a "via hole" which is an actual little hole on the pcb. Conductive material is applied to its inside so it can act as an actual wire that connects one side of the pcb to the opposite. that way, you have duoble the surface (or real estate) on which you can place components.

The SMD technology I've seen on effect pedals is probably about 5 to 7 years old. Most passives in them are 0805 (8mm X 5mm), and some 0603.

In newer technology, you can see passives as little as 0402, 0201 or even 010(.5).

There are even newer technologies (but I don't know if they will be applied to audio), where all the passive components (res, caps, ind) are actually placed in the inner layers of the PCB. Making it an actual 3D circuit. all the ICs and active components are placed on the outer surfaces.

I guess if the audio quality of this technology is good enough, we could be seeing multieffect units in a zvex sized enclosure in a few years.
