PLayed a bunch of gear. I walked into one store, Ishibashii Gakki in Fukuoka, and the manager walked out and remembered me instantly, and proceeded to give me an hour long personal tour, letting me try everything. He was disappointed when I walked out with nothing, to be sure (but I usually buy a few pedals each trip). The only pedal I wanted was this...

The Maxon compressor was ok (I like my Guyatone best), but the funny cat. It may have had a blown or dryed out part, but the famous "C" setting was really week. The dirt side was nice, but nothing I dont have, but we both agreed it had something wrong. Oh well, I had watched the site everyday to see if It would sell, but it waited near two months for me. Also, I wanted this Orville Explorer with Gibson P/U's

    20130602\_144401.jpg

but oddly, it felt cheap in my hands the instant I held it. Played decently. Still, on the search for the modified Gibson explorer I played 10 years back that was for $400 and I didnt have the cash that day, and it was gone the next...sigh.....

Luckily, my favorite Ramen shop, Number One Ramen, delivered in spades....fresh Asahi Super Dry on tap....

    20130601\_195007.jpg

    yum city...

SO, then I was off to the Hard Off, my favorite used electronics chain. Took a 45 minute bus ride through old neighborhoods and walking, in a decent summer rain shower. I always go there. It was outside the city, no tourists go there, not many non-Japanese, its just a medium sized city, but its always a fun trip for me.

so they always have about 100 or so guitars, from junk to Gibson custom shops, always pedals..

    20130601\_145521.jpg

they had quite a few guitars in the junk section, which ranges from unusable or fixerupers

i went to one more shops they had some pedals, but not really anything I wanted, so I took this home:

GameBoy Brick $1   Ive bought 3 of these in recent years, and my friends always walk off with them. lol.

Games $8.50 . Kirby, Dr. Mario, Boulder Dash, Black Bass Fishing (No Tetris this time).

Yamaha Metronome (made on June 12, 1973), 40 years old. $10. Its quite cool.

Korg Transistor Tuner Works great. I had to go all analog, lol $3.

    Old Binoculars Japanese Steel $3.

I had to have the nicknacks, Theyre way cool to look at.

Oh and the Maxon Parametric, about $70. It sounds really great (who was it, Fingermush? He raved on this thing. Its a synth sweep for sure.

Joey, if I ever find myself in Japan, I want you as my tour guide!

Looks like you could really get lost in the used gear shops there.

Thats a whole chain, all of their stores are like that, and theyve been like that for years. They used to be a bit cheaper, then they went up, but now, theyve come back down...

I know a bunch of places like that. Why do you think I always talk about Japan, in Japan, with Japan?

One reason Ive never been into Boutique, the Japanese made so many great pedals and stuff. I can get some crazy stuff there. Studied it forever.

I used to find the Love Rocks and Burnys for like $150-300 each. Regularly. Grecos and Orvilles, Arias all of that, then the internet happened, and then the Japan Vintage craze happened, but its over, and the pedals are cheap again (save the main legends, ie ts808, etc)

That food? Its Hakata (Fukuoka) Ramen, and some beer.
