      so more or less something like this, powered, can set input/output gain, sum from stereo to mono and isn't a $3000+ rack unit...

      ?

      with the picture this concept makes perfect sense, that is, if the picture is accurately depicting what phil was describing.

          It's mono out, which may not be what you want, but on my bass board I use a Behringer MX400 to mix the high and low frequency chains - biamping goodness. Yeah, it's got the B word on it. But it's tiny (smaller than boss pedal size) active so avoids the passive resistance mixer tone-suck, sounds good and clean, metal casing and sits low enough that I don't bump the knobs with my feet. And cheap as chips. Downsides? Needs 12V power, which for my 1spot-powered bass board means a separate wall wart. But that's the only thing.

            Sadly, these are no longer being made:

            It works really well, though.

            I like to use it for parallel effects: e.g. two (or more) dirt pedals in parallel - or for adding a clean blend to dirt pedals. (It's a shame the Award-Session doesn't have phase switches.)

            Other uses:

            If you have a delay/reverb with wet and dry outputs, you can process each signal separately - e.g. chorus/vibrato/tremo/etc. on the repeats only...
            Tri Chorus - split signal to three chorus (set to 100% wet) or vibrato pedals combined with dry signal.

            * * *

            If you only need two inputs, then the Barge Concepts VB-jr TB loop blender can also be used as a 2-into-1 mixer if you just plug into the main input and the loop return and leave the send disconnected, so I will assume that other similar products like the Xotic X-Blender will work just as well... and there's always the good old Boss LS-2.

              What we need is for someone to build a pedal that sums and also serves a purpose, something that you'd already put at the end of your chain (delay, compressor, etc.)

                    this sums a stereo signal to mono. I think phil wants stereo summed to stereo?

                      Yo Phil, assuming the reverbs end of chain going into 1 amp. Whats the benefit of sending a stereo signal, into a mono reverb like this?

                          phil please clarify what you are looking for. lots of us still don't quite understand

                          how does this imaginary ideal box you are looking for solve your problems of having say 2 mono in, stereo out pedals on your board. are you saying you want to combine teh signal from the first pedal's stereo out, so that one output goes into the input of your second pedal, while the other output from the first pedal gets summed with the 1st and 2nd outputs of the second pedal?
