I'm digging everything lately. I've had a little time off, so I've been migrating a lot of my vinyl collection over to 320kbps mp3s into iTunes... everything from Rush 2112, to TRex Futuristic Dragon, to Ministry Psalm 69, to Tears For Fears Seeds of Love, to The Stooges BOMP! EPs.

As for NEW music?

I just bought Atoms For Peace AMOK on vinyl. I'm waiting for the Bowie The Next Day, MGMT, Arcade Fire, Grimes, and Phoenix Bankrupt! to come out on vinyl.

 I also like these tracks:

Couldn't find the video to Deathfix, but here's the soundcloud link:

Goodbye Bread or Melted are probably better Ty Segall albums to get started with.

I'm looking forward to
White Mannas
album out later this year too.

Sounds interesting.  Can you compare to a similar band?

Thanks for the reponses guys.  I am really liking some of these bands.  To be honest I visit HCFX to discover new music as much as I come to learn about new gear.

I also really liked Alabama Shakes SNL performance.  The lead singer's SG is sex!

For effects,

I have been "digging lately" the guitarists that have always had the best effects:

Gilmour, Beck, Trower etc.

Sound is over 50% of the equation.

Notice that the stuff that sounds best is the stuff that gets your attention.

As a guitar player, I spent s'loads of time on my sound.

As an example, a good amp is crucial for starters.

I mean an amp that AMPLIFIES what it gets fed... not a "signature amp sound".

Then, the effects get max delivery without being altered.

I use a Boogie Mark III.

Start there.
