Members 80sbuttrock
I'm looking to replace my DSL's original "mystery meat" Marshall preamp tubes with something else. I heard that JJS don't really work that great tone wise in this particular amp....suggestions please?
Members WRGKMC
Try Electro Harmonix. I've tried all the new budget tube versions in my Marshall and Fender amps and you cant beat the EH for the price. There's some expensive ones that are supposed to be better that cost $100 each but compare the specs here and you'll see they don't rate much higher. The EH have a clean bright tone with a little extra boost compared to others. They have low microphonics and can produce the best driven Marshall tones. If you want something lower output and darker sounding you can try the JJ's. They are a very durable tube. The Sovtec tubes aren't so hot. They do the job but the tones are vary bland and sound anemic when driven. This comparison chart is pretty good on rating them. https://www.tubedepot.com/tube-comparison-tool
