Hovercraft Amps . . . who has one ?

I don't know. For those prices I can buy the real thing instead of copies from some unknown company. Their cosmetics are pretty awful too. From what I can see they are using budget parts on everything and that should reduce the cost to build, not parallel other manufacturers. Parts alone may cost $300 on several of those amps. Having a $900 markup is pretty steep for a garage built amp. The guy couldn't even get the toilet paper out of the way and take some decent photos. Not that that's going to affect the sound quality but its obviously home made stuff and it does look pretty tacky to me. I'll take a good used head any day over some unknown builder. I couldn't resell any of those amps for more than $350 even if they had never been used.

I hear what you are saying, but the amps that he 'clone' is amps that are very pricey on the used market - IF you can find them at all !

Things like MATAMP's GT-1, Electric amp USA, Laney Klipp, Sunn Model T.

All extremely rare, and Uber expensive, when you actually find one for sale :(

I understand. If they are that unique then you may have to buy a copy if that's the ideal amp you want.

But just doing a quick search Sunn makes a reissue Model T.

Matamps can be found. They are popular in the UK it seems but not so much in the US. I haven't seen many around nor actually used one.

It would need to be something highly unique to even interest me and seeing that the company has pretty much faltered, I probably wouldn't

opt to buy one at any price.

Electric amp seems to be an offshoot of Matamp in the US that's turned to making their own designs recently.

They look like they are still in business

I don't see anything about them that really interests me. Surely not the prices they want for them.

Many tube amps use the same basic designs and re-voicing an amp to make it sound unique. The actual designs are actually very similar because there are only a limited number of tube choices to create designs around.

I found this page that reveals some of the construction inside . http://www.planetoftheamps.com/electricamp-usa-uk-comparison.html

I don't see anything there that warrants the $2500~$3000 prices they want to charge for them. Paying premium prices for a bunch of parts not worth even $300 is pretty ridiculous. You would really need to love the tone to want one. Buying a copy in this case or modding an amp to sound the same would be an even wiser move.
