Members twd2550
Apologies if this has been covered before. I have a new Marshall dsl. Accidentally turned power and standby switches on at the same time. Did this only one time. Did this cause any damage?
Members guitarcapo
Probably not at all. the idea of a standby switch is that some people believe that the tubes shouldn't see a signal unless the filaments (the part that glows in a tube) are all fired up. Especially when the amp has a solid state rectifier and all of the voltage hits the tubes immediately without the rectifier tube slowly bringing things up. The reason has to do with the tubes lasting longer if they aren't given a chance to warm up in peace before being put into service. It has nothing to do with protecting the amplifier components themselves. So bottom line it might be a bit harder on your tubes if you do it routinely....but even THAT is up for debate if you have a tube rectifier.
