Is this mod something that can be done where I bought the amp? I'm pretty sure it could be. Also, would they do it for free?

I doubt they'd do it for free. Do you know anybody in your family/friends that can do some soldering on a pcb?

Do the swap if you can and post your impressions. Curious to see if this makes that big a diff.....

I need pics to see which one. RD/MAN said C1, but that's at the front left corner, not towards the middle. I don't want to do the wrong one.

I'll get pics up this afternoon. I see no cap at the front left, fit. It's at the left middle.

                Guys,

I must be on drugs!! Sorry, the cap is the C3 position which is the same spot on the board. It's right behind the Gain pot. You can change this cap without taking the bottom tray or the tube shield off, just be careful not to burn a hole in the board.

Here's what you get with each value.
.0047u - Lots of low end in the gain making the attack feel soft
.0022u - cuts the lows in the gain a little making it tighter
.001u - this value gives the module really tight pick attack.

Giv'em a try, and please take it to a local tech if you're not experienced with soldering.

                Thanks,
                RD/MAN

RD/MAN corrected things. When it comes to PCB's, I'm about as "tech" as a 5 year old, so I was following RD's C1 instructions versus looking for the cap!

Oh, I see. I guess I don't have to take the bottom off or anything. I had in my mind to do the cleanest soldering job and that would be to take it apart. But now that I think about it, that's not 100% necessary .

With that description above of what each value does I plan to check out the .0022 and the .001.

If you ladies want to send me your modules I think it would be fun to do the mod. Hell, the parts are cheap enough, too. All I ask is you pay shipping.

Doug, I assume these caps need to be 600v?

It appears they replaced the resistor on the TopBoost module when I sent the whole amp in. They did the same for the clean module but left the Recto module untouched for some reason.
Look at the halfway decent solder job .

                                MitchSchaft,

Alright, I called the place where I got the amp, and apparently THEY don't do the repairs there, they outsource them. And the outsourcer or whatever charges $35 just to LOOK at the damn thing, not including parts/labor. I'm thinkin' I might just send it to you, since I can get it done a lot cheaper. Would that be cool with you man? How much would the parts cost?
