  • Testing the waters: My Mesa Mk IV for your...

Looking at Marshall or Marshall like amps. A Slash or ZW head would be preferable although for the right deal I will consider a DSL. Amp must have an fx loop.

EDIT: One other amp I will consider is a VHT 50CL w/ EQ

Don't do it man! Save up or sell a guitar and buy a second amp! YOU WILL REGRET IT IF YOU SELL IT.

I know but I can't shake it. I miss the Marshall tone.

I might consider trading my Mark IV for yours if you'll throw in some cash...

Kage and Dan I know the Mk IV is a killer amp but theres something about Marshalls that sound smoother. It's in the mids and high end that I'm noticing whatever "it" is. Damn it sucks to be me.

                      Hey Buddy!
                      I have an idea!!!!!!
Jim, go and buy a Soldano sp77 preamp and run it into the loop bypassing the Mark IVs preamp. That way you still have the Boogie sound when you want it and you have a really really hotrodded Marshall sound when you want it and all for less than $400 bones out of pocket now!

I used to have a sp77 and used it with a Boogie 2:90 and it kicked all kinds of ass for metal and rock. Then I had the X88R and it was the same asskicking sound as well.!

                      Give it some thought!

Never sell or trade your Mark or rectifier series Mesa amps...only a Mesa sounds like a Mesa. If you like the charecter of the tone at all hold on to it, or more than likely you will regret it down the line. I'm sure many forumites can confirm this statement. Just my opinion.

I'm not a Boogie guy by any means. I'm a Marshall guy, but you've been down that road and passed on it already. Your just chasing your tail at this point.
