  • Peavey Rockmaster thru EL84 amp??

Has anyone every done this?? I have a H&K Edition Tube 20 and I thought about using the Rockmaster as a preamp in the effects loop. I am curious what kind of tones to expect. The RM is on the way so I can't test yet

i used to use a mesa 20/20 with mine....sounded pretty good at "bedroom" volumes, but i didn't like it much when it was cranked up more....that power amp was ****************ing loud though.

    sorry, no good clips

I did that with a Classic 50 410 once. Sounded real crunchy!

Thanks for the replies guys. Least there is some hope of decent tones. I hope I have a 5150 coming so my plans have changed and I am looking for another use for it now.

I have just recently bought a rockmaster preamp. If I were you I wouldn't dismiss it to the thought of a 5150. I have heard many 5150s and also played through one and the rockmaster easily stands up to it. If anything, the rockmaster is clearer sounding than the 5150 which may be a good, or bad thing.

If you have a bright poweramp just keep the 'edge' or treble down on the rockmaster and it will sound great.

The Rockmaster sounds good thru EL84's but you have to be looking for that kind of tone. The EL84 has a earlier breakup like an EL34. It adds to the crunch of the tone. If you want tight bottom end and clear tones then go with 6L6's. The Rockmaster works like a dream thru the loop return of a 5150. That's how the clips on my site were recorded.

Would you say 6L6s are generally more desireable for metal tones?

The Classic 50/50 power amp is EL84 and it and the Rock Master go very well together.

+1. I run mine through the Ultra plus effects return. Can't quite decide if I want to go to an entire rack setup yet though. Cheers Lucius

                      I prefer them.
