Members blinz
Can this be done? How difficult is it? Can I learn to do it?It's just a thought I had about doing this with a Silverface VibroChamp. What would be the tonal differences in doing this? The VC is running through a 4 ohm 12" speaker, not the stock 8".

Members Mike_E_McGee
I built a tweed deluxe, and have learned a lot about that particular amp. That is the depth of my knowledge though. In a 5E3, to accomodate 6l6's, you have to change the 5watt 270ohm resistor to a 15watt 270ohm resistor. Then as long as your output transformer can handle it, you're all set. Sadly, I don't even know how to judge that. I used a MM OT, and I believe the guys on the 5E3 forum give that a thumbs up as far as handling 6l6's. I love the sound of the amp with 6V6's so much, I don't want to tinker with it. I'm not much help to you. (bump)
