Members Petrucci_is_God
I play progressive metal like Dream Theater, Mesa Boogie would be ideal, but its a bit too much for me at the moment....what would be the stage below mesa boogie in terms of quality and price?? Members afxwinter
What's your price range. That'd help a lot for figuring out something for ya.
Members pretaanluxis
if you like the Mesa sound get a Mesa. Peavy and Randall can be decent cheaper alternatives but make sure you try before you buy

Members afxwinter
I understand that you guys pay a premium on that stuff but I'd go for a used mark with a used 1x12 or 2x12 cab. It should be within your price-point, and if you like petrucci I gaurantee you'd like the marks. Mark III or IV specifically as the IIC+ is out of any normal person's price range anyways. =)
Members Petrucci_is_God
Well what Mesa would u recommend? A single rec is 1,800euro and a cab is about 800...thats way over my limits for now...
Members Alchemist
I know petrucci had an F-50 head in his rig a while back, dont know if he still does. You might be able to find one of those used, plus a good cab for a decent price.
Members Petrucci_is_God
Ya cool, but i still think Mesas are a bit too much for now. What other brands would be good?
Members Petrucci_is_God
F-50...50 watt? Would u get much power and volume outta that?
Members Alchemist
well if you are paying a premium for any american amp.... then look at european amps.... and add an EQ pedal, it wont be exactly like a Mesa, but it will probably still sound great.. Try some out and see which give a thick warm tone... you have Hughes & Kettner, Ashdown, Koch, etc at your disposal. I am sure one of their models can get you in the tonal ball park. You may even try a Mesa V-twin in that amps loop, those are pretty cheap on the used market....

I have an F-30 halfstack (I prefer el84 tubes to 6l6's), its so loud that I cant play with the master past 1, even at that, it litteraly rattles things in the room. The only marks currently in production are the Mark I reissue, and the Mark IV. The Mark I's are awesome amps and sell for around $1250, but it may not have all the characteristics you are looking for.

Members Petrucci_is_God
Ok. Any idea what marshall cabs are good? Which ones would sound good with a mesa head?
Members Petrucci_is_God
Not an aversion, its just that i live in Cork, Ireland, and theres only 3 music shops and they all suck, and ebay is too much trouble to go buyin heavy goods... Members Alchemist
Marshall 1960A is kind of the standard.
