Members XXBRETXX
has anyone played either of these jcm 900 models? im going for a punk/powerpop/rock sound and i heard these amps can really dish out some gain. Any opinions?
Members Weathered
The SL-X is one hell of a distorted amp. Lots of gain on tap. The only issue is that they really don't have a clean channel at all. If you're only playing distorted, or can use your volume control as your clean channel, they are really cool. Depending on how my Zinky sounds (I'll find out this week), I may look into one for myself for high-gain.

The SL-X is a much better sounding amp than a standard JCM900. And for punk/powerpop, it would fit the sound very well. Another amp to look at if you're on a budget is the Laney GH50L. A little bit more gainy than a Marshall, and much smoother. I used one in a punk/emo band for years, and I found it fit the sound better than my '83 JCM800.
