60's Mullards are the best all-around IMO.

 

RFT for hi gain.

 

I like JAN Phillips 12AX7A's for medium gain and excellent tonal balance. Sylvania's are also very good for this. They were sometimes made in the same factories (along with RCA) here in the US.

From what I have read, I am leaning towards the Mullards.

I couldn't agree more. I love the non JJ nos tesla & RFT, I would make sure your Ebay seller has a good reb before getting tubes there.

I've tried Mullards, Telefunken, RCA, RFT, and most of the current regular production tubes and I like the NOS Tesla 12ax7's the best for hard rock tones/amps. Telefunkens are great in Fenders and other 'clean' amps. Everyone's ears are different though :)
