  • Anyone have any experience with these DI/speaker emulators?

I just got a PSA-1 as backup for gigs and I thought I'd buy some speaker emulation for it.

Any experiences on these, I'll be using them live and for direct recording:

Behringer Ultra-G (I've heard a lot of bad things about these regarding noise and sound quality).

    Hughes & Kettner Red Box

    Palmer PDI-09

    Tube Amp Doctor F.A.N.T.A.

It does, but it's pretty subtle and transparent.

I have the Behringer and the Palmer, and for comparison's sake have also recorded with my SM57 as well as direct into my L6 Toneport for the cab emulations. While the SM is still the best IMO, the Palmer sounds very good. It's got 3 voicings which are all usable, and it's quiet. It even fooled a guitar playing co-worker when I played him some clips of the DC with the SM57 and Palmer. He said "I like the other clips better than the SM57 clips. What kind of mic was that?"

+1 for the Palmer. I use it with a dummy load to get power tube distortion and to keep stage volume low at my church. Sounds great everytime, no fussing with mic placement.
