Members Sigel_TTD
I'm going for a full re-tube tomorrow, what do you guys recommend for power/pre?
Members The4thlast1
A mix of Chinese 9ths with other tubes of choice. I would go with a 9th in v1 and a Sovtek LPS in the phase inverter. Probably 1 EH mixed in there and a lower gain tube. For Powertubes the safest bet is The Ruby's , Ive used them in mine for a long time. I just tried the Tungsol EL34's in there and like them also. Members Sigel_TTD
what were the differences between the Ruby's and the Tung-sol EL34's?
Members The4thlast1
Well I havent had enough time with them but so far I think they are a bit more focused in the midrange, a touch tighter and quicker on the lows and have a little more of that EL34 grind or crunch to them. Maybe the Rubys are a touch smoother, with a wider more compressed tone. They both would work great,....The top 3 choices from what I know is the Rubys, SED's and the Tungsols..... I would stay away from the EH EL34's and the JJ's in the Cobra.
