Love me some Marduk, Infernal Eternal was one of the first cd's I bought. Angelcorpse is cool cause John Longstreth is a ridiculous drummer. Satyricon is always win in my book, even their new {censored}ty Black 'n Roll style {censored} but we got to remember, there are multiple waves of black metal here:

Early stuff heavily influenced by the New Wave of British Heavy Metal

This stuff along with Celtic Frost and Hellhammer aren't really considered Black Metal but were certainly key influences on the genre.

Second wave in the early 90's:

Third wave symphonic stuff, late 90's early 2000's:

I know Dimmu and Old Man's child started in the early 90's but I feel like their sound in the later 90's and early 2000's was pretty typical of Black Metal at the time, lots of symphonic stuff.

Then of course the Black Metal meets rock and roll stuff that's coming out a lot now. Like newer Satyricon:

Yeah... not quite Mother North anymore...

Old Man's Child is awesome too.

I forgot about them until I started posting. It's been a while since I've had a listen to em so thanks for reminding me.

and just for good measure:

Sorry for all the videos, it's just a serious walk down memory lane.

i love black metal.

i love the fact that black metal started as part modern art, part metal scene, part terrorist movement.

the music part, was always based on raw emotion, and the release of that emotion.

never about production qualities or even musicianship necessarily at first.

The the "purposely bad production" thing was cool in the begining, and now i think that SOUND alone has evolved into its own thing as well.

I also like the 2nd, and 3rd generation black metal bands that mix that original raw black metal sound and vibe, with other styles of music, or with beefed up metal musicianship.

i just heard the new nokturnal mortum last night, and i love it.

those guys are finally kinda comming into their own i think.

i don't even care if those guys are neo nazi's or whatever, they jam. :thu:

Black metal is probably my favorite genre..GREAT stuff has come from it. I love everything from the primitive and raw stuff to the symphonic bands.
