Is the 20 or 50 watter voiced differently? When I played the 20 watter at my local GC it had nowhere NEAR that much gain, punch or grit.

The 20w has the crunch channel of the 50/100w heads, not the lead channel.

So will the 34s work in the regular JCA without a mod or only in the HDM? Anyone do this with the original 50 or 100 yet without mod?

I tried on my 100h and it didn't really work. It sounded bad and the tubes got ultra hot really fast. I took them out real quick.

that really does sound very nice. I like the bite and fullness.

did you roll back the gtr volume about mid ways? if so, I was disappointed it didn't clean up better.

FRPC - do you have to do any mods for EL34s? Is it simply plug and play like the other tubes you've tossed in?

Was it possible the bias was off? I know my factory tubes were at like 51 and I would venture to say that's much too much for an el34 in the JCA.

In the HDM, it's plug and play it seems. I've got a quartet of SED 34's coming from laura this week so when they get here, I'll try putting them in the standard model to see what happens.

It could very well be that the different transformer in the HDM is allowing the amp to operate differently. Doug said that the JCA100's will be getting this same OT during production at some point but it could also be something else going on in the amp.

My weber bias rite I think is broken or not working right or something because it was reading 0 mA

If you should drive those EL34 hard, I suggest to change the screen grid resistors from now 470R to 1kOhm.

                              I have to listen to your clip later . . . damn firewall things . . .
