  • Music Man JP6 pickup configuration/wiring

Does anyone know how these operate or how they're wired? I love the different tones that are available in the demos I've seen. I'd like to know how the switches are wired and what each one controls.

Do you you need a technical diagram showing the circuit boards and wiring, or do you just want to know how the switches work?

The toggle switch near the horn has three settings: 1) piezo only, 2) peizo-magnetic mix, and 3) magnetics only. There are controls on the back to change the degree of piezo-magnetic mix and also to adjust the treble and bass of the piezo.

The toggle switch near the tone controls has these settings: 1) neck pickup, 2) the two inner coils of the neck and bridge pickups, in parallel (for a single coil sound), and 3) bridge pickup.

On the front, it has a volume and tone knob for the magnetics, and a volume knob for the piezo.

Does it have push/pull pots, or anything like that? To do coil splitting or parallel?

Mine doesn't, but some of the newer ones do.

The ones with the push/poll pot work exactly as described above, except that when you pull the pot up, in the middle position of the magnetic pickup selector, you get both the neck and bridge pickup in parallel. So, the default (pot down) middle position (on the magnetic switch) gets you a single coil sound, but when you pull the pot up, you get two humbuckers at once.
