I played guitar through an old 1x15 musicman cab once that sounded pretty badass.

Also, I like the sound of these:

Someone should have told SRV about their negatives.

      This.

It's one of the main ingredients in the SRV tone. More so than 13's which I think is a hoax because on 13's the G string is wound. Look at some pics and video and you will see no wound G.

you could try an EVM 15. my old bassist would switch out in a couple of songs to guitar plugging directly into his GK with a 215 full of them, and his guitar sounds were mammoth, if a little scooped (well.. a lot scooped out..).. but they always had lots of high end.

i think they're wildly underrated as guitar speakers-- especially for guys who do more fingerstyley stuff and grunt it out trying to darken stuff down. the response of a 15 really is nice for slowing attack down a bit and adding a bit of sagginess without the penalties of a saggy amp, and they definitely tame some shrill top end if you use a full paper cone. lot of old rockabilly guys used to love 'em!

I believe the dude from Grand Funk Railroad also used 15"s

Also, on the other end of the spectrum, Dimebag had them later on in Pantera's run.

I think Scott Ian has used them too, but not 100% sure on that.

As mentioned, Stevie Ray had them as well.

Ive used them too, and dig it. If I was gigging, I'd probably grab up one of those Randall 2x12 + 1x15 cabs, or set up something similar.

In the past I've also fed the Line Out of a Marshall 8100 to the FX return of an old 1x15 bass combo amp, used as sub for rhythm playing. Balls like you wouldn't believe once you dial it all in right. Great for huge death metal riffage, and not flubby at all so long as your careful. Would also sound badass for doom metal too. Also recommended should you gig sans bass player (which I've also done....but not by choice, rather necessity)

I hearya'. That's pretty much why I never could grab one up. And for what it costs to ship a cab (especially that cab...you KNOW it's gotta be a beast to handle), you might as well buy new from a retailer who gives free shipping.

Best bet is to hold out for a used one local enough to pick up....but good luck finding one of those under those circumstances

That thing would sound beastly with my set-up though, I know it!

The community here was awesome but the digs & spirit of the place has been in decline ever since it became a business venture rather than a simple collective and this latest gong show really brought the chickens home to roost.Necessity is the mother of invention, ergo: www.guitarampboard.com.So long and thanks for all the fish, love izzy.

My rg100 would sound pretty mean with one of those cabs..Probably would add a nice bass response to it i imagine....Sure wish I could afford to test different configuration of cabs and speakers ..I tend to buy good used gear as I get much more bang for my buck... Only thing in my sig that was bought new was the Randall...My guitar was in like new condition when I bought her.. had several chips but otherwise plays great... A few cosmetic changes, set up the bridge properly and totally reworked the electronics.. I nearly bust a nut every time I play her now

15s sound great for guitar, but not usually thru speakers that are made for bass. Bass speakers are more eq-ed to, yes you guessed it, bass frequencies. Guitar thru them sounds dull and sort of scooped.

You could try an EVM12L, geezer butler used them for bass and while you arent gonna get a super deep tone it would at least hold up. However no oe called any cab loaded with one super portable, the speaker weighs a ton.

I bet that had a EV in it. I can testify as to the sound quality of one for guitar. They are a pretty decent guitar speaker. They sound a little "hard" to me in the attack, it also seems to get "ice-picky" if you're not careful with the EQ. I suppose some of this could be attributed to the amp, too. It was in a Music Man 65 watt combo.
