  • Recommend affordable tube amps for cleans.

I'm looking for a good clean/low gain tube amp. Probably something Fendery but I'm open minded.

$500 or under. Used of course.
No preference on head or combo.
    40w or more.
Single channel is fine, more is okay though.
    I don't need any on-board effects.
    Clones are okay.

    Suggestions?

Right now I'm really looking into picking up a used SF Bassman. But I figured I'd try and get some suggestions to see if something else might spark interest.

Oh yeah.....also seeing Fender Hot Rod Deluxe's pretty cheap on the used market. Been seeing them anywhere from $350-$400 on CL. Awesome little amp.

Peavey Classics are far from bad. I have to say though, much as I've heard of reliability issues with the HRD, both it and the Deville have really great cleans for the price. The dirty channel is less inspiring, but it's a worthy purchase for the clean channel, and probably reasonably cheap used...

Carvin X100B hands down. The clean on that is great. Very warm and Fenderish. I put mine up against a DR and I like the Carvin better. Best of all, you can snag them for around 300 or so.

Bandmaster Reverb, early non-master volume is amazing for cleans. Right around 40 watts I believe, very similar to the Super Reverb.
