  • Guitar painters in da house?

Gotta friend of mine that wants an EVH Frankenstrat paint job
on a cheapo Strat body. He'll happily pay. Any suggestions?

      yeah, that's the one.

      Pretty cool site.

Anyways - my biggest tip on the few I've done -

      BE PATIENT.

Sand, sand, sand, sand, and then when you're done with that, sand. After that, clean it off real well, spray away. If you have the buffing tools, I guess you could wet sand with some super, super fine grit and buff it out after. I've gotten some decent finishes out of just spray can finishes.

With 3 rattle cans and some scotch tape...OP's buddy should be g2g.

Or mail it to me...I'll happily charge him to do something he could easily do.

start with a white body, tape it up and spray on red. mask red tape, tape up again spray on black. Remove all tape.
Wet sand smooth and cover with clear laquer.

Yeah, I have no desire to mess with it really. He's a gemologist/jewelry designer that really never gets his hands dirty. He's looking for someone he can send the body to and do a decent job.

Too much guitar for the money, he'd feel like he was ripping Fender off.

I have never seen a rattle can paint job that looked right. You gotta have a spray gun to do it right IMO.
