  • Mesa STR440 don't seem to fit right in Trem-O-Verb head!?

Decided to stay with Mesa tubes based on suggestions...the head came with STR430 which I've had in there far too long. I bought some STR440 today at GC and came home and installed them, all but ONE(even this one isn't perfect) doesn't seem to fit well in the tube socket. There seems to be like a 2mm gap where you can see the pins between the tube and socket. With the old tubes they seemed to fit flush like plastic end of the tube with the white of the socket. Any ideas? I tried the amp like this for 5 mins, seems fine all tubes work and it sounds normal volume/tone, but am still concerned.

take it off and make sure all the pins are completely straight and line up perfectly with the socket holes. It's not a big deal either way, Ive used tubes like that in the past with no issues

Apparently it's specific to the STR440 tubes. I pushed the tubes in little more and used the socket/pin alignment to brace and slightly wiggle in down a little more the seem to fit a tiny bit better and closer.

Now one on the outside glows blue at the bottom when I crank it up and hit a note...is that bad?

Nope, some tubes just do that. No worries about the blue.

Even if it's the bottom of the tube and bright and the only one of the quartet doing it?

the blue glow is from the tube having certain gasses in it. basically, it's kinda like a neon light.

nothing to worry about at all, and can be kinda mesmerizing if you watch what happens in there while playing
