  • mesa mkiv vs mkv my thoughts

i have read many different opinions on both amps and this is what I have come up with so far.

ok so I played both amps I got the mkv to sound similar to the IV but I can't get the feel of the mkiv with the V. the IV has more sag than the V. I also got closer to the tone I have dialed in using extreme mode on the mkv. the over all tone is darker on the IV. so in a nut shell the IV is easier to play and more fun because it is way more forgiving. the V is definitely way more articulate and over all a tighter amp thus far.time will tell.

I used my charvel model6 and here are the variables

    MKIV(6l6gc)>Vader 412

    MKV(e34l)> pair of Vader 212's

Interesting, I would of course really love to hear a V vs IV vs III being such a mark fan.

Hmm, I wonder if the different power tubes are making for the differences between the amps.

How is the Mk V with 6L6s?

I like sag in an amp. Not so much in boobs.

Cool report, sir. I have yet to road-test a V. Funny thing is, compared to my other amps my IV feels kind of stiff at times. So if a V is even tighter and stiffer then I am not sure I would like it.

the mark power section works with two sets of tubes in parallel, the EL34 often being in triode, pseudo-class A. Though there were 6L6 only versions of marks forever I'd say that if you crank to a reasonable level you may be hearing more of the EL34s, going into power tube colouring easier and more quickly than the 6L6 pair. I also remember a thread on the amp garage forum that this design more or less eliminates crossover distortion which is interesting and very un-marshally.
"is this tone obtainable using the HD500 or Axe Fx? Overall, for convenience and volume control, should I buy the Axe Fx over actual tube amps? I don't plan on playing loud; just playing at home and recording on my Mac. Thanks man, you are awesome!

                      short answer: no...

                      long answer: no way..."
