  • What to use on Fender tolex and grill cloth for cleaning?

No stains or heavy grime....just years of house or closet dust. Something that won't harm it or fade the grill cloth. Thanks!

If it is just dust, I would use a damp rag on the tolex. Maybe some Armr All, but I personally think its a bit overkill.

excessive volume works wonders for your grill cloth issue.

A little Murphy's Oil Soap in warm water have done wonders on all the tolex cabs I've cleaned. I've heard so many horror stories in the past of Armor-All causing dashboards to crack that I wouldn't chance it.

Make the amp look nice, but if you have to touch it (move it) that slimy silicon gets on yer hands.

I've used automotive products. vinyl cleaner (not protector) for the tolex. Use a small fingernail brush and scrub in little circles. For the grill cloth I use foaming automotive upholstry cleaner and use the same brush.

The amps look like new when I'm finished.

I wouldn't touch it. Once that dust settles on the tolex you risk blowing the output transformer if you disturb it.

Stop it with the Armor All. Thats stuff gives tolex a cheesy kind of shine that doesn't look natural. Okay if you want your amp to reflect light in a cool way.. Also that stuff stays slimey slippery for a couple of weeks after you use it and gets on yer hands. Not good. I would recommend NOT using it. I also would not recommend it for car dash boards either.

Use simple green with soft bristle scrub brush.

Also, consider making or purchasing a cover for the amp.
