  • 5150III 50watt boost?

Just recently picked up a 5150 III 50 watt and It is definately a huge step up from my Valveking. The red channel has tons of gain and sustain but I dont always want to be using it for rythym as well as lead. The blue channel is suposed to emulate a modded Marshall tone right? Brownsound ish? I feel that it doesnt have the majority of the qualities I was expecting. Would a boost help push the blue channel? All recommendations are welcome!

Are you after more gain from channel 2 , or just a different sound ?

I must not be into modern metal like I used to be. I can't imagine needing any more gain than that amp has on tap.

Don't get me wrong, Channel 3 has tons of gain, I just really want to like channel 2 but right now it's not doing it for me

A clean boost or a tube screamer in front of the amp will give more gain .

But for me the 5150iii has more than enough gain , I've just put 12AY7 tubes in v1 and v2 to tame the gain a bit on mine.

Channel 2's gain is about 12:30, that should be plenty of gain to give it an 80's metal vibe, but it feels more like the gain much lower. Channel 3 is at noon and it's off the wall, sustain and harmonic content, what is happening?
