Probably the fastest I've replied to a PM. Haha, just let me know what you need in return.
I do not accept any liability for anything said in the above post.

For your reference, what I'm mostly using right now:
    Laney VH100R
    Titan "Cerberus" (sorta)
    Mesa 4x12, homegrown 6x12 (v30/g12h30)

it sounds like one or more of the jacks are dirty (probably fx loop jacks). I would pull the chassis out and clean out all the jacks and pots. It doesn't sound like it's something serious.

+1. That is the first thing I thought when I read the first post, dirty jacks. Hit everything thing really good and she should be fine.

Even the footswitch needs that cleaning/love.

I know I need to tend to my mine as last night she wasn't always disengaging B channel button, that or I need a new DIN cable for her.

You need to let us (well at least me) hear how she sounds with KT77s, 6L6s sound AMAZING in the GL/VH heads and the description of the KT77s (even the 6CA7s) sound like the best of all worlds. Clips. Please. NOW!

The VH100R is a fantastic amp and it's sorta like the Mark IV in tweak-ability in it's eq section. It's not an instant gratification amp like the DSL. You can shift your knobs all of over the place on the Marshall and it will still sound quite good and forgiving. The VH100R is the opposite. You can shape your sound at practiced one day and after a week or so you'll tweak it again only to find another different sound you didn't know the amp can do and this could possibly go on for days, weeks, months and even years. There are just so many sounds you can get out of it that it can be overwhelming.

It's sensitive to speakers and tubes....especially the power section. I use SED EL34's and love the grind and complex mids from it. I've also used kt77, el34L from JJ's and chinese el34(makes the bass flubby). The SED 6l6 or sovtek 5881 and sounds better with a more modern mesa-esque feel with those tubes.

It's funny how the VH100R hasn't been discontinued since it's introduction around the 90's. I can see why that it's still going strong because it's just a versatile amp that does many things well. The distortion isn't like a 5150 with tight bass or highly compressed. It's high gain with an organic feel where you're note separation is more prominent and mistakes are not as forgiving as other amps are.

There are some great clips on the VH100R if it's tweaked with care.

This is one of my favorite VH100R clips that I've heard in a while.

^for as good as homie plays you'd think he's take out those stock pickups but either way he puts me to shamey shame.

I'm having a **************** load of fun with this amp. Holy **************** I'm in love

what speakers do you use B&D? I'm using CL80's and they sound fantastic. I'm used to the pickiness of the amp regarding power tubes and speakers because the GH series is the same way in that regard. I've personally come to prefer JJ 6L6 but I haven't tried SED's, and I've only also tried Sovtek 6L6 in my GH50L but preferred the JJ's. I've tried JJ KT77's in the GH (they're in it currently) and they're really REALLY good also. If I had a quad I'd try them in the VH100R. I'd like to try 5881 and KT88's. Hell I'd like to try them all. I can tell I'm going to have a lifetime of fun with this amp.

It's a badass amp! He did an amazing job representing that amp in that clip! New vh100r owners need to spend a bit of time tweaking it to really get the feel how the amp functions in a live situation unless you've owned laney amps in the past. The key is in a "band" setting.

Some owners will never know just how good this amp can sound without stretching its legs.

It's good you already know how this amp reacts to power tubes. When laney decided to ship these amps with the cheap Chinese brands...it really misrepresented of what the vh100r sounded like.

I used cl80, gt75, vet 30 in the past, but my favorite is the v30/ et65 combo.

The bad thing about sed is that they're freaking expensive now.

You'll definitely have balls of fun taking this amp for rehearsals and gigs! It's never let me down in 12 years!
