      Somewhat less bass, because what comes out the back is out of phase compared to what comes out the front. If the two waveforms interact, they cancel somewhat; but this really only happens if the wavelength is really long, which is a characteristic of low frequency waveforms.


      Also, the speaker responds somewhat differently because it doesn't have back pressure from a closed back cabinet. So, the speaker in an open back cabinet has the potential to "flop around" a little more.

      When I went from a 2x12 open back to a 4x12 closed, the drummer said he could hear me as well. I struggled finding the perfect stage volume and cab placement. Seemed like it was always too loud (laser beam efffect) or not loud enough.

       

      Went back to 2x12 combo and had no more problems. It fills the stage room more evenly, imo. Just something I've preferred in 25+ years of playing.
