Members MadSkillzMan
hi guys my other guitarist has a fender roc pro head, and well it sounds pretty good, however, it keeps cutting out while we play. Now he tells me, hes NEVER changed the 1 tube in it (has no idea about the tube inside) and its dated 1993. He also told me it went from taking about 30 seconds to warm up, to 2-3 minutes. To me, that says BAD TUBE! but im not much on hybrid amps So i popped it open today, cause i guess one other guy had already resoldered the tube connections, and never bothered to look at the tube..it was covered in this tight grey rubber, which after i peeled off, the tube was chared black on top, more than usual You guys think just replacing the tube would fix the problem? its a 12ax7 preamp tube, thats it. Newb question i know, but im new to tube amps. Hopefully thats all it is, cause right now all we have to listen to is his 120watt crate head thanks in advance
Members Japetus
It wouldn't hurt to try. And it'd be a cheap fix.
Members MadSkillzMan
thats what i thought, i just figured since the thing was wrapped in there tight it didnt seem like too much tube changing was intended
Members tlbonehead
I can't believe someone would actually post the question w/o first at least throwing a different tube in to see if it was indeed the problem.

Why not make it a point to have a couple lying around,as cheap as they are.
