Members doomedfuzz
I ran across one of these when I picked up another amp I was buying from a guy yesterday. He had not played it in a while, but said it fires up and sounds pretty good, has a nice classic rock overdrive, not a high gain machine by any stretch of the imagination. The entire rig was already torn down so I didn't get to try it out. He wasn't considering selling it but when prompted, he said sure - had not even crossed his mind. Before I make an offer or even want to take the time and trouble go back over and test it, I wanted to find some info - and there is little outside of some pix and catalog listings on the Web. 1982 Acoustic Control Group - 250 guitar head (I've seen these on the Web possibly called 250H or even the G120 but cannot confirm either as official), solid state, original brown tolex (all of the acoustic products had brown tolex from 1981-1982 I believe). Here is a pic I found on the Web, not the one I'm looking at but exact model. Any info, links, feedback, experiences, etc. would be appreciated! I love weird and strange gear, this is up my ally. Sure it's not an early 70s 260 or 270 but it looks pretty cool still!
Members Mr.Grumpy
Well obviously it's solid-state. The only "name" artist I know of that used them is jazz guitarist Pat Metheny, and his tone is the type that most rock guitarists hate. They have a reputation as well-built, rugged amps, and I imagine it sounds good clean. I've never heard a SS amp with a usable "overdrive" channel, but with thousands of different dirt pedals out there, who cares?
