Members ESchmidt
Hey everyone! Does anyone have any opinions on Peavey Deuce 2x12 combo amps from the late 70s? I can get one for $200. Is this a good amp for classic rock? Thanks!
Members Flogger59
With pedals, yeah. The phase shifter is built right in, too. It's ungodly loud, and at the time I think they still used Eminence drivers, but I'll bet that you really won't like the amps's distortion. Members bdubbs
I owned one. Didn't really jive with it. Solid State pre and power section. You could possibly replace the speakers and use a pedal to get a decent sound.
Members ESchmidt
I think that for $200, I cant really go wrong as the amp is in good working order with no issues. If anything else, it will be a fun little toy to mess with. The HC reviews seem to rave about these for the southern/classic rock tones I am looking for. Here is a demo of how the amp sounds. Members Flogger59
If you like the guitar sounds from Skynyrd's One From The Road you'll like a Deuce (I don't). The band used the Mace, which was the same pre, but a 160w output section.

Members rushtallica
I'd recommend spending about twice that and getting a tube amp. But maybe you can get a chance to try it out at both low and higher volumes and really like the tone.

Members southtexslinger
heard a 3 piece blues/classic rock jam on one a few months back . . . the guy had it a bit dirty and would boost it with a tube screamer for solos . . . Great Sound . . . . plus it's a peavey so it's a workhorse amp . . . no issues with it after this many years, that's telling you something. Members rushtallica
its ss pre amp, tube power amp. It has 4 6l6 power tubes. Thanks for the clarification. If it has an effects loop you could always use the tube power amp to drive a different preamp if you weren't so much into the way it sounds as-is. Members johnarte
I know this is soooo late but I just got my deuce running and went online searching for info, which brought me here...anyway...this is what I do...I run my super champ xd's line out into the deuce power amp section also using a marshal power soak...I get the killer tones off of the little fender plus i can get it concert loud..... Members Kevman
Ss pre 6l6 power. Takes pedals well. On board distortion is lacking for even hair metal. Very nice cleans and built in effects (PHASE) is decent. $200 seems fair if the amp is functional and tubes dont need immediate replacement. Members jazzgitter
I had one in the late 70's, as stated before it was capable of being really loud but for me it was missing something which was probably coming from the solid state preamp section. Not the warmest tube tone but it worked ok. Gigged with it for many years. At the time I kind of wished I had bought a real fender twin, mesa boogie, or something similar.
