The only one I can confirm is the JCA22H. I'm not sure if the 100H/100HDM/50H does or not. Seems there's a thread around here where someone from Jet City says the loop was done differently for the 22H due to complaints...which I don't know if that includes all previous models or not. Seems most Soldano and Soldano-designed amps have the same issue with loops that don't work quite right with pedals.

Bah - I like the hardwire stuff from playing with them briefly but don't own any. Don't feel like buying a bunch of pedals to run inthe loop, finding out they don't and going through the returns shenanigans.

That's not a problem limited to the Hardwire line...that's a problem (pretty much) limited to anything touched by Soldano. Most of his loops are designed to run with rack-levels, and not pedal levels.

Oh I know. I just went back and checked Billy's JCA pedal thread - the Hardwire Delay and Reverb work, but not the chorus

I already have the EHX Nano Holy Grail that works great in the loop.

I have the G Major, but I hate fiddling with the patches and have decided I prefer the plug and playability of single pedals more.

Gonna add the clean/crunch switch for the clean channel.

Thing is it will change with the slo mods. I'm also going to outline the scoop mod.

I don't use the fx loop at all. In fact I don't even use the OD channel. I strictly use the clean channel and warm it up with pedals. I have a Holy Grail as well, use it 100% in my tone. When I rarely use the amps OD, the Holy Griail intensifies strongly. I wonder if I were to use the reverb in the loop, would it still continue to do that?

              Editing a comment

I just finished undoing everything I had added to or changed from the Predator mod.

I had the normal/crunch channel right where I wanted it but I think the OD and normal channels are more connected than I thought.

I was under the impression that changes to c30, r42 and c28 only affected the normal channel.

The normal channel was sounding really saturated and smooth but with a tight low  end. Basically what I want the OD channel to sound like. But with the mods needed to get what I wanted out of the normal channel, the OD channel suffered.

So I'm not really sure where to go from here. I ordered the 500k pots (and some other pot values to play with the in the tone stack) so I'll probably at least try the SLO preamp mod for the OD channel.

I just cant get the Od channel to sound right to me. It's big but bright and kinda brittle on top or something. Plenty of lowend and definition but kind of round.  It's hard to explain. Way back when I had a boogie triple rec that had the same harsh quality on top.

So as of right now my 100 has just edge's "predator mod" with exception of c30 .01uf per kaoslord's suggestion.

I played with the slope resistor values this morning. I tried 56k and 100k and lowering the treble cap to 220p and up to 560p....everything sounded harsh to me. So if using 39k for the slope is brighter then I will pass on that lol.

I think I will give my ears a break for a little bit, they are ringin pretty good right now. But I figure I'm not trying to get a good tone outta this thing on 1, I want it to rock on 5-6 ya know?

              so....enough "testing" for the day

                  Can try a ecc81 or 5751 in V2.

I am currently running a ecc81 in V2 and a 5751 in V3......I like it as it cleans up the crunch a bit...but you do loose some volume on the crunch channel.

I think I will try just a 5751 in V2 and go back to a 12ax7 in V3 next time I decide to F' with it.

Got my 22h yesterday. So far I am very impressed. I'm still getting used to it and messing around with the eq, but mostly I'm just playing giant HoF style riffs since it pretty much nails that tone. Right now the plan is to aby it with my Blackstar HT-5 but the the only cabs I have are a Marshall 1966b 2x12 for the Blackstar and an old Sunn 4x10 that the Jet City is on. It works fine for now, but the JCA seems to sound better with the 12s and closed back of the Marshall.

So what kind of cabs and/or speakers tend to work well with them? I have been looking at Whitebox a bit for obvious reasons, but thought you guys might have some suggestions.

Also, what sort of preamp tubes work well with it? I have a Tungsol in my Blackstar that worked really well, so I may try those...but thought I would ask here first as well.

Well I basically spent the whole afternoon ****************ing around with different tubes in my JCA22 Head.

What sounds best to me is:

Sovteck 12ax7wa in V1,2 4 and stick a 5751 in V3. Loving it. V5 also has a Sovteck but I think it is a WB instead of WA...but not 100% for sure on that. I have JJ EL84s as well.

Kick ass amp.....My Blackstar (which I loved dearly) is colecting dust in the computer room.

I spent about half an hour running both amps at once. I am a huge fan of the way they blend together. My wife it not a fan. At all.

How do you feel like the new tubes changed the overall tone? I have only had the chance to play at low volume, but I feel like the tone with the stock tubes is kind of fuzzy and harsh - which is not exactly a bad thing mind you.

And I agree - the JCA makes the Blackstar feel like a toy at times. Running both at once feels more like the Blackstar is adding something to the tone of the JCA instead of two amps blending together.

Getting the crap chinese tubes out got rid of some FIZZ and made it LESS harsh. Running the 5751 in V3 got rid of more fiz and also cleaned up the crunch channel "slightly" ....it runs 70% of the gain of a 12ax7.
