  • Leonard Cohen, RIP...Robert Vaughn, RIP, Leon Russel, RIP, Mose Allison, RIP...tough weekend for the boomers...

Heard this last night, gone at 82...a great poetic songwriter with outstanding insight and characterizations, the self-proclaimed "patron saint of envy and the grocer of despair.”
He first found fame with 'Suzanne', the haunting character study set to music.
Hallelujah, Leonard...interesting story about that song*...languished ignored for about 15 years...sadly much like the Canadian born writer/Buddhist monk himself, whose career was a roller coaster of acmes and nadirs.

*actually, it is possible that if Jeff Buckley had not drowned after recording 'Hallelujah', it might not have become a hit. He heard John Cale's version on a tribute to Cohen album, and was, in fact, playing the song live in his set when he was signed to Columbia.

Hadn't heard about Robert Vaughn. Both will be missed, for sure.

Mose Allison! Oh, man, I followed Mose since I was a kid.
