  • It's a conspiracy, I tell you!!!

Well, I've been trying on and off for about an hour and a half to upload the finished Rustyjam2...

For some reason both cyberjammin.com and DSP block before the upload is complete. The little bar at the bottom of the page gets to about 99%, and then everything just blocks... Considering the two sites both show the same symptoms, I suppose it must be my fault in some way...

    Anyone got any bright ideas???

Have you checked available space at the destination?

What utility are you using for the upload?

If you want you can email it to me and I'll host it for you. I'm adsl enabled so size is no problem.

I've no idea how to, but I presume that DSP or Cyberjammin have 5 megs for my little mp3...

What utility are you using for the upload?

You see my problem here - I don't even understand the question... I just log onto the site, and click on the "uploads" options and follow the instructions, as per usual... After about 3 minutes, instead of saying something nice, like "download successful!", they just stop...

I'll try again later - maybe The Bug (one of The Man's more Nefarious Works) will have gone away...

          Thanks for replying, Bob...

              Hey Capt.,

              What's the filesize?

If you couldn't upload it at CJ.com, it probably times out. The server requires uploads to be completed within 30 minutes max.

              /Johan

Yet another example of why the Vets' Forum is the coolest place to be...

Thanks very much for the offer - if I can't get it sorted out by tomorrow, I may well take you up on it
(Would you believe my ADSL provider will let me have 100 megs of personal webspace, but I just can't get it to work? Of course you'd believe it... )

BTW, There's still a slot open for you on Rustyjam3...

                Cheers...

So the upload utility is on the site, that's the answer. I meant were you using a utility on your PC to upload, some of these a problamatic.

Yep, sounds like a timeout problem. If I can help with my cable modem, let me know.

cyberjammin.com is just a slow upload process. i thought i was doing something wrong too. i finally tried it one last time and went to bed. when i checked the next morning, it had worked! the bar slowly goes to the end and you think it's done. but you have to wait for a long time after that. it doesn't look like it's doing anything, but it is.

Hey Cap, if the first 3 folks don't work out email it to me, I'll put it on my site. That way I can run it through a new software program I have and edit my solo, it's called WANK-OUT.

Bob's right. The server upload utilities are somewhat flakey. If your ISP provides 100M of webspace you should take advantage of it, that's quite a valuable feature.

FTP is most reliable method of uploading files. Download WS-FTP-LE from http://www.ftpplanet.com/download.htm . Make sure you get the (free) LE version, that will do everything you need.

Check the ISP website for information on settings - if that doesn't work try the helpline. They should be familiar with WS-FTP. You may have to pay for support but you only need do it once. If you still have any FTP problems post them here. Plenty of people have been through this loop before.

Well, what can I say? Thanks a lot, folks! I post a "I'm too dumb to use Internet" thread, and immediately get people giving sound advice, including three offers of a loan of webspace - what a terrific forum this is, eh?

I reckon the majority were right - maybe a timeout prob (but I have ADSL, so it takes about 3 mins, not 30). I just tried again, and it worked OK (took Delilah's advice and waited patiently )

Anteater: I am going to have a concerted effort to get at the free 100 megs they offer - if I get stuck, someone will help me out (like you all just did...)

At the risk of repeating myself, isn't this place wonderful???

                          Cheers...

BTW, new thread to link to the jam in about 5 minutes...
