  • Most moving song ever written

To me the Bille Holliday song 'Strange Fruit' is one of the most moving songs I've ever heard. What song has moved you the most?
Question: Why did the monkey fall out of the tree?

    Answer: because it was dead.

The first thing that pops into my head is the second movement of Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto #2.
    It gets me everytime.
Not exactly a "song" I guess.

One song that moves me quite a bit is "Reasons" by Earth Wind and Fire, but that is more because of some specific memories that are associated with it....(Mannheim, Germany 1976 )

The song that moves me most on it's own would be either Bridge Over Troubled Water or The Only Living Boy In New York (both by Paul Simon)
        Thanks, and rock on!

Ederlezi by Goran Bergovic, it's part of the sundtrack to a film about gypsies in former Yugoslavia. It's moving not only cause it's a very beautiful song but because of the scene in the film where you hear it.

When I'm Gone by Phil Ochs. It's such a strong statment. Knowing that he killed himself makes it even stronger in a strange kind of way.

Things About Coming My Way by Tampa Red. It always meatn a lot to me personally. That's why I translated it you know

And Strolling With Bone by T-Bone Walker cause all those licks just come from the hips
            Terje Larsson

                    "Amazing Grace".

It was written by John Newton, a former slave trader who (in his own words) "was by the rich mercy of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, preserved, restored, pardoned, and appointed to preach."

Every time we sing it at a nursing home, many of the people will sit up and sing along. They seem to get great comfort from it and it gets me every time.

Neil Young sure knows how to make songs that can really move you. Listen to Natural Beauty for example.

Other songs by Neil that move me especially much:

                            Feel your love
                            Like a hurricane
                            Sugar mountain
                            helpless
                            Stringman
                            Pocahontas

And so many others I can't remember now...

                              The Long And Winding Road
One day a long time ago when I still partook of herbage, I was pretty wasted and driving and this tune came on the radio and I just started balling my eyes out!

                              Agnes Dei-By Third Day
It's a very powerful Christain tune that can bring me to tears.

                              Just As I Am-Old Hymm
This one also gets to my heart.
                              Have you checked the chicken?
