  • follow the leader

Concerning the technique called follow the leader:

Which finger do you find is the easiest to follow? Do you ever change the lead finger depending if you are going up or down the fret board?

Do you concentrate on where the lead finger goes to in the next chord, and let muscle memory place the other fingers into the chord shape?

a lot depends on what you are playing. For most chording (barre), the fore finger typically will be the 'leader'. for string to string scalar type riffs, I tend to use my middle finger, so my fore finger is free to go to the next string....and some times, I lead with my pinky, particularly to jump strings and go to lower frets...there is no one way, IMHO
