Members md1984
Hey everyone. I'm a guitarist and have been singing for quite a while. I can hit pitches and lock in on harmony parts but I have trouble with fast little embellishments and runs. Im not talking like 2 or 4 bar RnB runs. Just simple little runs at the ends of phrases for example. Usually blues/pentatonic runs. Its the speed that becomes a problem. If I sing the runs slower I have no problem hitting them. But up to speed, I have less control. How can I practice and gain more control over these runs? Thanks for any help.
Members ido1957
I would say it's muscle memory(vocal cords) that would just require practicing the run(s) over and over until you have it solid.
Members md1984
Thanks. That makes sense. Practice practice practice just like anything else.
Moderators davie Posted July 31, 2013 Moderators Share Posted July 31, 2013 You probably need to work on your 'vocal agility' and thin out your cords more. Try practicing scales and then gradually speed them up.

Members Crqc
There's a great youtube series by Morgan Schnerpstein called "Improving Your Small Runs and Embellishments"! It's 3 videos that covers a lot of cool ideas, check them out.....
Members md1984
That series sounds great. But, I can't seem to find it on Google or Youtube using "Improving Your Small Runs and Embellishments" or "Morgan Schnerpstein" as keywords. Do you happen to have a link?
