  • Alice in Chains Vocal harmonies

I posted this on the lesson section, but i think it was the wrong section. So what gives AIC there unique harmonies? what kinda of intervals do they use that are different then what other bands use?

Harmonies in their genre of music is what makes them unique.
Not many hard rock/metal acts features properly sung harmony parts.
Mostly thirds, eg Down In A Hole verse parts (Jerry starts out at Ab while Layne starts at B), or fifths, eg Them Bones (Layne on the high root Db and Jerry a fifth lower on the Ab).

I've always loved the harmonies in the verses of Damn That River.

Staley and Cantrell used very dissonant harmonies. That gave the music a darker sound, and plus their voices went great together.

Plenty of great harmony vocals in hard rock/metal music.
Good analysis of the parts, though.
