Members samal50
I don't see too much mention of people using tube, ribbon, or boundary mics. Are not these mics for vocals as well?
Members LC0728
I believe Metallica used tube mics at one point, I'm not sure if it was early on, but Compressor microphones are awesome, if I ever get my band going and get it big enough I'd love to experiment with other mic types
Members YeahDoIt
I am only interested in microphones that perform well, are inexpensive and rugged enough for stage use. Some such microphones are dynamic or condenser types. Piezo microphones also work in some situations.
Members WynnD
PZMs aren't good for live performances of anything outside of opera. Dynamics are rugged and sound good with lower frequencies. Condensers are great for high frequencies. (Overtones and higher singers.) They're not as sturdy as the dynamics. (Dropping one can spell its end.) I don't have any ribbons, but I'm under the impression that they are very fragile. (Expensive to loose to careless handling.) I have an AKG C-1000 S condenser mic. Love the range overtones and it's proven itself to be durable enough to gig with. (Minor repair of the screen in about 10 years.) I have had a female vocalist who thought the thing looked too phallic to use in public. (Come on, it's the wrong color. And get your mind out of the gutter.)
