Members urca
Best bet is to try various colors etc... at a place that sells lighting (Guitar Center/Sam Ash maybe) and shoot a quick video or pics of you under those lights. Give yourself an idea what colors work well with you....

Members PollyGoPop
Mostly I gig with just me and a guitarist. I have a colourchange LED striplight, it's about 2 meters long. We use a plain backcloth and sit the striplight on the floor in front of us. The light illuminates us in colour, and projects our shadows onto the backcloth. it's really simple but creates a really nice ambience. We play a lot of gigs in marquees (weddings, dinners etc) so for this kind of thing we don't use a backcloth, just the side of the marquee. For classy, low-key events we have it set just on a kind of pinky/red hue, for more exciting, rockier gigs the colours will change. It was about £180 and I wouldnt be without it now
