Hello!

just arrived here in this forum.

I’m 35 years old, male, trying to learn how to play and sing properly (at least acceptable) and I know I’m in a very early stage, lots of errors, bad intonation and timming, etc., but I’m asking if I could have some feedback. I would like to know how to improve.

following are 3 tunes i’ve tried recently (Different shades of blue, dreams, given to fly)

Should I give up?

Any feedback is appreciated.

thanks in advance,

 Gabriel

The singing needs a lot more work , the guitar is passable.

I'm not even sure where you should start .... but don't give up. I think that you should work on each of them separately from each other. Vocally it was a bit of a train wreck and I don't think that trying to play guitar at the same time is helping.

I would say go for some voice lessons and practice every day ... don't expect instant results, it can take a long time ( i.e years ) but it can be done.

Hi Gabriel, welcome to the forum.

I had a listen to a couple of your links earlier. As CosmicDolphin mentioned, I think your vocals need a lot more work. But that's not a reason to give up. If it's something you're passionate about then you should not feel discouraged and do it simply because you enjoy doing it. Everyone has to start from somewhere. It doesn't matter if you're 5 years old, 35 years old or 75 years old, there always a way to improve. Even if someone is a late starter, there is always a physical ability to sing, you just have to break through all of the bad habits made throughout the years and align the voice properly. First of all, you still have a decent sense of pitch, which will help you along the way. Secondly, I think you're straining with the voice a bit too much. I can tell that you're going for a gritty sound, but I would suggest you try sing with a clear tone, at least to begin with. A clear and resonant tone needs to be the foundation of your voice. Try not to overdo using vocal style to compensate for the lack of technical singing ability, it could halt your progress over time. I hope you find this feedback helpful. Feel free to message any questions you may have.
