Members samal50
I used to think UB40 and Big Mountain had Jamaican singers, yet no, but they sound authentic with their Jamaican accent emulation. Is it just influence and practice?
Moderators davie Posted August 23, 2016 Moderators Share Posted August 23, 2016 Yes I would say its due to influence and made possible through practice. It all comes down to the style of diction the singer uses.
Members 1001gear
I've run into multi racial but US sian reggae bands that have the show perfected; at least to my disinterested satisfaction. Not just hair mind you; Rasta stuff, dance hall rap, Ska, name it. It's surreal although I do wonder if these guys have even been to Jamaica. Members kickingtone
Part of accent is what I would call a "vowel palette" -- a bit like an artists paint palette, except that it is a selection of vowels. Some genres only "work" with a specific vowel palette. It's something I haven't got to examining and practising, yet.
Members 1001gear
Speaking of Big Mountain, this is a great tune and a favorite rendition. I gotta also mention that it's too musically detailed to pass for reggae - with notable exceptions (Bob Marley, FI) a genre of meaningless vamps.
