Members gilb
I have a condenser head-worn mic and a Yamaha MG20XU mixer. My manual says turning on the phantom power can damage dynamic mics. I want to use this mic. Others in the band use dynamic mics. Is there a way to use the dynamic mic? Moderators davie Posted December 3, 2014 Moderators Share Posted December 3, 2014 I don't think phantom power will affect dynamic mics. Phantom power is more of an issue for ribbon microphones. If your band wants to be safe then just run the condenser mic to a separate mic preamp before going to the mixer and leave the mixer's phantom power turned off. Members highmtn
Davie is correct. Phantom power will not hurt dynamic mics. I run phantom power all the time on my board to run mics and devices that use phantom power. I also use dynamic mics on the same board and it does not hurt them. It is not likely that any of the mics your band has are ribbon mics. They are somewhat rare, expensive, and mostly for studio use. Bob
