  • should i buy a mac and Digital Performer?

    Hey all,
I've been a music hobbyist for years. I've really only used PCs except for a class I took on MIDI that used some Macs. It was when I was first learning things, so I can't put it all into perspective.
My goal is to use digital performer to play back clips of audio and edit them. I want to have MIDI pedals that trigger the play, stop, rewind etc. buttons all with the feet. I'm tentatively looking at a new computer, a mac, with digital performer to do this, plus other stuff, but I'm really keen to have the MIDI "learn" capabilities for the basics functions. Can anyone out there confirm that this can be done. I would appreciate any comments or advice. I play sax, and I will be using the setup to learn from recordings omang other things.
    thanks

I'm not up on MIDI foot controllers, so I cant help you there. I know they exist
like the Roland MIDI Bass Pedal controller, etc.

But I can tell you that I've used Digital Performer for quite a while, and it's great. It has very extensive capabilities for MIDI.

To find more specific info, maybe from someone already doing what you're planning, the Digital Performer forum here is first rate:

Whatever Mac you buy, get at least 1 Gig of RAM to run DP properly.
